Our regular feature highlighting local markets and services that cater to our sized households.

A great round up of our local markets this week with a focus on all things long summer weekend in mind.  We visited Walt Churchill’s Market (Briarfield), The Andersons (along with House of Meats), Sautter’s Market, Sofo’s, and Monnette’s.

Walt Churchill’s Market

WCM always has a great selection of interesting small batch and locally produced sauces, rubs, marinades, and mustards.  Add in really good looking salmon this week and of all things Sea Beans.  We mean it.  Sea Beans.  They are strange, exotic, and tasty!

The Andersons and House Of Meats

Any holiday SOS would be remiss if we didn’t take a careful look at The Anderson’s and House of Meats.  HOM in particular is a BBQ gold mine this time of year.  Salmon skewers, amazing chicken breasts that are marinaded and ready for grilling, cowboy pork chops, and a whole selection wurst, dogs, sausages, and other “grill-ables”.

Sautter’s Market

Sautter’s is always just fun.  However, if for nothing else they have the best selection of potato chips around. Many are locally produced and most are interesting.  Along with their bakery, deli, and excellent meat market, Sautter’s is worth a visit during the summer kick off. Also, pay attention to a brilliant and colorful array of plant baskets and pots.s

Sofo’s

We can never go wrong shopping at Sofo’s.  Right off the bat if you are responsible for the evening wine and cheese appetizers or the relish tray Sofo’s has your back.  Add in their deli and bakery and you are set up for a weekend grill or an afternoon picnic.

Monnette’s

Salad, deli, fruit, grilling vegetables….Monnette’s is the start of any holiday party veggie tray, tossed or fruit salad.  The local grown asparagus is the best we have seen this year.
