Spring cleaning season is upon us. Time to sort through our belongings and determine what to keep and what to pitch. Though it may be frightening to confront what hides at the back of the closet, this time of the year can be transformed into an enjoyable time that may include earning extra cash for old things or helping the community at large. It is also a time to update our wardrobes and living spaces or take up a new hobby or sport. Fortunately for us the Toledo area has a plethora of resale stores that will take our old belongings and make them someone else’s treasures. Plus we can enjoy a bit of nostalgia!
If you are looking to update your wardrobe in vintage threads look no further than The House of Dow on 1501 Adams Street. This store features clothing from the late sixties through the nineties ranging from dresses, jackets, suits, bridal gowns, accessories and lingerie. The prices are very reasonable for any budget and you may just find one of your former wide lapel shirts from the disco era hanging on a wrack!
Is it time to purchase a housewarming gift? Have a gently used piece of furniture you’d like to put up for consignment? Find the unique and retro at Encore Furniture @ 306 on Conant Street in Maumee (www.facebook.com/encorefurnitureexchange/). The store features tables, comfy couches, refurbished end tables, retro appliances, lamps and vintage knickknacks. The blue table in the featured pictures was hand painted by local artist Chris Ueberroth-Krall. Visit and find something unique for your living space!
Other resale stores in the Toledo area that feature items beside clothing are: Play It Again Sports on 5333 Monroe St # 16, where you will find sporting goods and workout equipment with previous use for half the price. Allied Record Exchange your one stop source for music, games and movies both old and new with three locations-1710 South Reynolds Road,1734 W Laskey Rd and 3253 Navarre Ave # B, Oregon. Of course there is Goodwill of Northwestern Ohio that will accept donations of used items ranging from clothing, appliances, media to furniture to be resold and Savers. Both of these locations have a mission whether it is to develop the work force or support a charity, so your donations will help the community as a whole.
