Here is a summer roundup of places to do and resources, local and regional, that lend themselves to daytripping and overnighting. Have an added suggestion? Let us know!
Local Outdoor Venues: There are the places around our area to a picnic, a good book, a hike, a walk, a bike ride, a….well, in general a get out of your house and enjoy the outdoors.
Toledo Metro Parks: Biking, hiking, walking, or just sitting with a good book we have some of the region’s best cared for parks. Explore and enjoy!
Toledo Botanical Gardens: Eden in the city, always worth a visit. Plus check TAFI for when they have music.
Mary Jane Thurston State Park: Tucked away and out of town, many state parks are easy to overlook. MJT is a perfect day or overnight along the Maumee river
Maumee Bay State Park: Beach, cabins, golf, a drive in movie theater near by, lots of places to run, walk, and bike. Everything you want from a place on the water
Schedel Gardens, Elmore OH: Another hidden gem.
Catawba Island State Park: A great day trip planted right on the water.
Sterling State Park, Monroe, MI: Maumee Bay in Michigan.
The 577 Foundation: A quiet, hidden, beautiful site for a bit of a day get away located on the grounds of the Stranahan Estate
Pokagon St Park, Indiana: A massive area to explore just west on the turnpike. Close enough to day trip or overnight. Far enough away to feel like a get away.
Amusement and Waterpark: We don’t need to say much about these. Commercial and concentrated fun.
Historical/Cultural: We could write paragraphs about each one of these places. The best thing to do is investigate their website or just show up and explore. Any one of them can get you lost for an afternoon or a whole day.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
National Museum of the Great Lakes
Resort, Shopping, Casinos, Metro Destinations: We live in a nexus of great towns and locations, big and small. This is just a sampling.
